Recommended Tips for Preparing for the Certification Exam
- Review the certification study guide (PDF) and state workbook.
- Take the online practice exam to evaluate which areas require additional studying.
- Refer to the appropriate sections of the Employment Law and Co-Employment books for additional information on topic areas.
- Based on your industry experience, allow four to six weeks averaging one to two hours per week to devote to studying.
- Allot two hours of uninterrupted time to take the exam.
What to Expect on the Certification Exam?
A two-hour timed online exam that consists of true-or-false, multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, and scenario-based questions. Questions are randomly generated from the exam learning domains.
CSP Exam
- 80 federal questions
- 20 state-specific questions in state that you have selected and conduct most of your business
TSC Exam
- 80 federal questions
- 20 state-specific questions in state that you have selected and conduct most of your business
- 20 questions related to per diem rules, worker classification, and H-1B visas

Sample Question
Anthony is an employee of FedCo. Anthony noticed in his last paycheck that FedCo failed to pay him some overtime that he had worked. When Anthony told FedCo about the missing wages, the company said it was sorry but refused to fix the problem.
